November 2007 Meeting Highlights ... Writers Ink Reeves Headlines Meeting During the November Guild meeting, San Diego Writers Ink executive director Judy Reeves shared her odyssey in developing the non-profit Writers Ink membership through the years. Home for the group is now The (Permanent) Ink Spot, including the Allied Arts Council Gallery, a studio at 210 13th Street in San Diego's East Village. A longtime writing nurturer, as well as teacher, coach, lecturer and fund-raiser, Reeves has authored four books, including the "A Writer's Book of Days." In 1992 Reeves and co-founder Ray Bruce coordinated the first Writing Center (a former bordello) in San Diego's Gaslamp District. Next came expansion in a rented Hillcrest facility and, finally, after a three-year sabaatical in Barcelona, Spain, she returned to start initially with coffee-house readings the current Writers, Ink Semi-permanent Ink Spot, initially with selected lectures and guest readings at the 13th Street facility. Now it's known as The (Permanent) Ink Spot or just "The Ink," a cultural center with a cornucopia of ongoing events, classes, readings and book fairs. "I love to collaborate," Reeves said.
