"Three Corners" Offered Handouts, Tips and Success Secrets

Can three professional writers sit in separate corners and still share wisdom, wit and secrets re their magic wands of success?

Back by popular request at the Guild's October 15 meeting were three highly successful member writers for our "Three Corners" Hands-on Worskhop; they offered help/hot tips on writing, editing and marketing both fiction and non-fiction manuscripts. This time around the room, members and guests chose two of three 30-minute workshops for hearty give-and-take from each corner.

Larry Edwards led the non-fiction workshop, discussing the competitiveness and lowly compensating world of writing for newspapers and online publications. He also fielded questions about marketing and how published articles can be used for book marketing.

In the short story corner, Yvonne Nelson Perry explored the vital perimeters of the short story, mainly beginnings and endings, as well as the necessary protagonist's thrusts. She also discussed premises and purposes of the short story genre.

Claire Hsu Accomando led the Novel and Memoirs workshop, noting how one of the most powerful human needs is the urge to tell one's story. She explored the rudiments of the memoir genre along with the necessary language to enhance personal myths and the fine art of unfolding one's story from the inside out — especially through memorable characters and vivid narration.
